Daily Doodles: Sketchbook detritus

Bass players with afros are an enduringly good source of inspiration. While the grey guy is every visa clerk I had bad dreams about.

Bring on the funk

Today’s daily doodle got a bit out of hand, but I felt my bass player deserved some proper treatment. I like this guy. I’d like him to come round and hang out for a while.

Daily doodles

old lady_1_webEvery day I stop storyboarding for half an hour and do something just for me, to explore a technique, and to draw more old people. Old people are the best.

The bus lady

A friend commented that the previous post could be the start of an animated short, which I dug, so I painted up the lady character to get a feel for her. (..does that sound wierd?)

Life is Story: On the bus

Took a bus ride into work and was blessed with a conversation happening behind me that diverted all my attention from the book I was reading.

First it was the singing.1Then the racism. This in a bus also containing Ethopian passengers. 2 I was plotting to turn round and fling a few well chosen putdowns (if only I was that quick), when the conversation took a different turn:3

A mermaid anticipates her lover’s return

I felt the need to draw a larger girl who was perfectly happy. Here she is:

She’s hoping that sailor is about to pop over the horizon. This is your valentine’s day drawing, a service gladly provided by jpvine.com. :)

-and here’s some music to go with it.

After a chaotic year, my wife and I have a new baby in the house, and life is beautiful. I hope it’s going well for you.

Suddenly, without warning, Marlon was overcome with existential Angst.

At least, that’s what I think Mudskippers are dealing with most of the time. They sit around thinking, what am I, after all?

Great battling britons, batman, it’s a comic in progress

Back off the plane from the UK:

And very nearly getting to the end of the Boudica comic…nothing like a deadline panic to motivate me. Things are shaping up beautifully on the book generally, with stories coming in from all over the world. We’ve set up a home for this project, which we’ve titled Tales of the Spiffing.  Take a look at at talesofthespiffing.blogspot.com to see what the artists are up to!
